4-star seafront hotel with a century of family ownership in Eastbourne
History & Family Ownership
The Lansdowne, Eastbourne has been owned and run by the same family since 1882, a tradition now in its fourth generation. This makes it one of only a handful of UK hotels with over a century of continuous family ownership. The 1912 restaurant name directly references the year the hotel entered its second generation of family stewardship.
Dining
The on-site 1912 Seafood & Steak Restaurant opened on 14 October 2022, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner with views over the sea. The restaurant has its own street-side entrance separate from the hotel lobby, allowing non-guests direct access. A selection of cocktails is available at reduced prices between 5pm and 7pm daily.
Rooms
The hotel provides 98 bedrooms, including seven executive double rooms, three superior rooms, and a junior suite, all south-facing with sea views. These upgraded rooms include bottled water and upgraded toiletries. Family rooms can accommodate up to four guests.
Location & Nearby Attractions
The Lansdowne sits less than 200 metres from Eastbourne beach and directly opposite the Western Lawns. Beachy Head's chalk cliffs are 2 miles away, and Eastbourne Pier is a 10-minute walk. Royal Eastbourne Golf Club is reachable after a 5-minute drive from the hotel.
Pet-Friendly & Family Amenities
Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel, including in the restaurant, bar, and lounge areas. Children have access to board games, a games room with billiards and table tennis, and dedicated kids' meals on the menu. The hotel also offers outdoor furniture and a beachfront location with easy access to the promenade.
Highlights
History: Fourth-generation family-owned since 1882

“The Lansdowne occupies a prime Eastbourne seafront position, an advantage most evident from its well-appointed sea-view rooms. Its enduring appeal is also tied to a family-run ethos, evident in the attentive service and a breakfast selection that impresses.”
James DavidEditor-in-Chief at Ukeastsussex
